What does “pet. ref’d” mean?
A case’s petition history is “pet. ref’d” (also known as “petition refused”) when the Texas Supreme Court has determined that the judgment of the court of appeals is correct and the legal principles contained therein are correct. When a court of appeals petition history is “pet. ref’d,” the court of appeals opinion has the exact same precedential value as an opinion of the Supreme Court.
