What does “petition filed” mean?

A case’s petition history is “petition filed” when the petition for review has been timely filed with the Texas Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court has not yet taken any action on the petition (e.g., the Supreme Court has not yet requested that the parties file “briefs on the merits”). Petition filed is also known as “pet. filed.”
