What is a “parallel cite”?

A parallel cite (also known as a parallel citation) is a reference to an additional place that an appellate opinion can be located. For example, if an old Texas Supreme Court opinion can be located in both the Texas Reports and the South Western Reporter, the opinion’s Texas Reports citation could be followed by a parallel citation to the South Western Reporter.
