What is an “index of authorities”?

An index of authorities is a list of all legal authority and secondary authority cited in an appellate filing. The index of authorities also lists the page or pages of the appellate filing on which each authority is cited. See Texas Rule of Appellate Procedure 38.l(c). Some lawyers informally refer to an index of authorities as a “table of authorities.”
