What are the “old rules” of appellate procedure?
The Texas Supreme Court overhauled the Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure effective September 1, 1997 and assigned new rule numbers at that time. The “old rules” of appellate procedure are the rules that were effective prior to that date. The old rules of appellate had been in effect since 1986. Prior to 1986, there were no “rules of appellate procedure,” and appeals were governed by provisions of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.
